With last week's independent release of "Broken," what better time to announce that there's plenty more where that came from! Get your headphones out ladies and gentlemen, you're about to know Drones Over Yellowstone in a more meaningful and authentic way.
We aim for the stars here in Drones Over Yellowstone. Sometimes we aim a little too high. If you are new to the DOY family, we have been planning the release of an EP since 2017. If you have any questions about this mythical EP that we've been talking about for nearly a year, this post should answer some of your questions.
In an effort to circumvent perfectionism and compromise with our ever-evolving perspective of what makes the DOY sound, we have come to the decision to begin releasing singles once per week from our super indie studio in Riverton, WY. The goal is to give you, the listener, an opportunity to get to know us (and more specifically, our music) more intimately.
We've got a lot of material that's right on the verge of being ready for release. It's pretty much ready to go, most of it is just missing those final touches that will make it sound like the other music you hear on the radio. We've been sitting on all of these tunes for months and months and it's starting to feel a little bit ridiculous to continue to sit on it while we work on more and more music.
We aim to build a means in which to get this music out to folks who care about it in real time. I realize that we have been somewhat delusional in our attempts to apply a release strategy that has been used by record labels for years to our [relatively] tiny, grassroots operation happening here on the Wind River Range. Drones doesn't have a team of twenty humans to take care of all aspects of our careers and the balance between the business and the art can be a painstaking one. Most of the time, our music, the centerpiece of this whole thing, gets put on the back-burner as a result of this inability to find that balance appropriately.
I believe that by committing to the release of a new song and video every week, it will help our small team to focus in on the production of a single piece of art from conception to completion. It's my hope that this will result in the listener having a higher volume of high-quality content coming at them through platforms that are affordable, accessible, and personal.
Thanks for listening!
